Acclaimed book One Hundred Days at Home to be turned into a TV series

Author Matilda Gyllenberg’s popular middle grade book One Hundred Days at Home will be adapted into a television series.

The Helsinki-based production company Jamedia Production is set to start production on the new television series Hundra Dagar Hemma, based on Matilda Gyllenberg’s acclaimed book of the same name. Jamedia Production is producing the series for Svenska Yle, and it will also be shown in the rest of the Nordic region. Like the book, the series addresses the issue of mental health in children, but in a fun and entertaining way. Casting is currently underway, and filming for the series is scheduled to begin in spring 2026.

Gyllenberg’s book One Hundred Days at Home (Hundra Dagar hemma, Förlaget M 2022) is a fast-paced detective mystery that explores essential topics, such as mental illness, and centres on the main circles of a pre-teen: their close surroundings, school, and friends. The story emphasises how important it is to be understood and seen by the adults around you. The book is illustrated in black and white by Maria Sann.

“Matilda Gyllenberg’s One Hundred Days at Home was one of the first children’s books to depict a pressing social issue: the growing number of children who stay at home. The fact that the book is now being made into a television series, filmed in the Finland-Swedish environment it depicts, is highly gratifying and shows how important the book is. Gyllenberg combines vivid characters and exciting plots with a warmth and humour that also encompasses the darkness in both the world of children and adults”, says Sara Ehnholm Hielm, publisher at Förlaget.

Producer Mia Palmgren highlights the book’s tone and the series’ audience appeal:

“We immediately fell in love with Matilda Gyllenberg’s world. It is warm, funny and also very exciting. We believe that both children and adults will enjoy this series.”

Matilda Gyllenberg has also been the dramaturge for the TV series.

“It’s magical to see how the characters in the book are brought to life and gradually meet a new audience. Anna and Mia are consummate professionals, and I know that Nike is in safe hands with them”, she says.

To date, German and Italian translation rights have been acquired. Sequel One Thousand Times Silence (Tusen timmar tystnad) was published earlier this autumn by Förlaget M.
