Nelson Tigerpaw by Lena Frölander-Ulf wins the 2020 Arvid Lydecken Prize

10 Jan 2020

It is wonderful to start this decade with joyous news.

Lena Frölander-Ulf has won the 2020 Arvid Lydecken Prize for Nelson Tigerpaw (“Nelson Tigertass”). We warmly congratulate Lena for this well-deserved recognition.

Arvid Lydecken jury:

“An impressive story about small and lost Nelson Mareng, who after difficulties transforms into wise and fearless Nelson Tigerpaw… The journey home becomes a great and exciting adventure for little Nelson who is befriended by a tiger called Zamba. Nelson Tigerpaw tells about prejudice, the power of friendship and courage, as well as the absurdities of the adult world. This delicately written novel is for ages 6 to 106 year!”

The annual Arvid Lydecken Prize is awarded to a meritorious Finnish children’s book and is worth 2020 euros.

Nelson Tigerpaw has received a great interest since it was released in 2019. It was one of the Finlandia Juvenile Literature Prize 2019 nominees  and has also been nominated for the 2020 Runeberg Junior Prize alongside 9 other nominees including three other book titles represented by R&B: Vesta-Linnéa and Friends (Vesta-Linnéa och vännerna), Princess Pintsize – It’s Not Fair! (Prinsessa Pikkiriikki: Huutava vääryys) and The Duck Who Was Afraid to Fly (Sorsa Aaltonen ja lentämisen oireet).
