Otus Opus - Zoology Poetry among the Most Beautiful Books 2020 collection

08 Apr 2021

Otus Opus – Zoology Poetry has been selected for the Most Beautiful Books 2020 in the category of children’s books by the Finnish Book Art Committee.

The poetry collection combining poetry, art and music, created by author Laura Ruohonen, illustrator and graphic designer Erika Kallasmaa and classical guitarist Petri Kumela was praised as:

“Bouquet thick, ripe and sweet, you can’t find anything as fine. Otus Opus includes miniature compositions dedicated to creatures smaller than a cat, created by Finnish and international composers. Fact-based poems combined with freshly crisp illustration and a controlled layout that also appeal to adults.”

This is the second year in a row that duo Ruohonen and Kallasmaa receive this recognition. Their poem book Sea Monsters was among the Most Beautiful Books collection in 2019.

The aim of the annual competition, organized by the Finnish Book Art Committee, is to draw attention to books as artistic entities – where form and content are in harmony. This year 200 books were evaluated and all in all 27 books were selected for the Most Beautiful Books collection in six different categories. The books will also participate in the Best Book Design from all over the World competition in January 2022.
