Arabia will release a limited edition Moomin’s Day mug to celebrate Moomin’s day on 9 August. The special mug features Moomintroll and Moominmamma who are sitting on the railing of the bridge waiting for Snufkin’s return.
The Moomin’s day mug will be available in the Official Moomin webshops from August 9th, 2021 at midnight (UTC +3 Helsinki time) but you can already sign up to be notified when the mug is available! The mug will be available as long as stock lasts. The purchase limit for the mug is 6 mugs per customer.
Moomintroll’s waiting on the first day of spring
The illustration on the Moomin’s Day mug originates from Tove Jansson’s book Moominland Midwinter from 1957 and the book of songs, Visor från Mumindalen from 1993.
The hand-drawn illustration portrays an atmospheric spring day and the evening sun. It is the first day of spring and the river flowing through Moominvalley is free of ice. Moomintroll and Moominmamma are sitting on the railing of the bridge, waiting for Snufkin, who returns from his long travels after winter.
Moomintroll and Moominmamma sit close to each other, admiring the reflections of the evening sun on the river. Snufkin always leaves Moominvalley in the fall to go south beyond the Lonely Mountains. He goes without saying goodbye, but leaves a letter for Moomintroll.
“Cheerio, Sleep well and keep your chin up. On the first warm spring day, you’ll have me here again. Build the dam while waiting for me,” Snufkin.
The style of this moment on the bridge shared by Moomintroll and Moominmamma resembles the Moomin’s Day 2018 mug and has gentle colours.
The Moomin’s Day mug will be sold in a gift pack with the same beautiful illustration.
The sale of the Moomin’s Day special mug will start on Monday, August 9th, 2021 in the Official Moomin webshops, Moomin Shops, Iittala webshop as well as selected Iittala stores.
