A Look Inside of the Beautiful Moominhouse at the Moomin Museum
In a new documentary and photos by Moomin Characters, everyone gets to see all of the details inside the magical Moominhouse at Tampere Moomin Museum. The house was created by Tove Jansson, Tuulikki Pietilä and Pentti Eistola.
The miniature Moominhouse at the Moomin Museum in Tampere is every child’s dream – a 2,5 metre high diorama with five floors full of incredible details and secret rooms. It was built by three adults who never forgot how to play – Tove Jansson, her partner Tuulikki Pietilä and their friend, physician Pentti Eistola.

Guiding you through the Moominhouse is actress Alma Pöysti, who played Tove Jansson in the recent biopic Tove. Pöysti reads Tove Jansson’s essay about the Moominhouse, where Moominmamma makes sure the house is ready for the night.




Tove Jansson Wanted a Romantic House
Tove Jansson didn’t want to live in an angular, rational box, so when she and her friends started building a model version of the Moominhouse, they let playfulness guide them.
