Licensing via Rights & Brands

What is licensing? Using a popular character or design can instantly boost your product’s visibility in the market, driving increased sales and profits.

By associating your product with a recognizable brand, you can tap into its established values and storytelling, attracting new customer segments and gaining a competitive advantage. Additionally, partnering with other license holders can create new opportunities for marketing and distribution.

  • Licensee: A licensee is a company or individual who obtains the rights from a licensor to use a trademark, brand, or intellectual property, in exchange for a fee or royalties.
  • Licensor: A licensor is the owner of a brand, trademark, or intellectual property who grants permission to another party (the licensee) to use it under specific terms and conditions.
  • Licensing Agency: A licensing agency acts as an intermediary between licensors and potential licensees, helping to facilitate agreements, manage contracts, and ensure that licensing deals align with both parties’ goals and expectations.

As a licensing agency, Rights & Brands connects the brands we represent with partners to create successful collaborations through licensing. This enables companies to use popular trademarks—such as artworks, characters, images, or films—for their products, publications, or campaigns.

As a licensee, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to be granted the rights to use these trademarks, while the brand owner retains copyright ownership. This license allows you to leverage the brand’s identity and values in your products and campaigns for a set period.
To kick off this partnership, we ask you to present a business and marketing plan that showcases your vision and demonstrates a broad distribution network, setting the stage for mutual success.

What’s important to us is a commitment to producing products that align with both the brand’s values and our ethical, environmental, and quality standards.

Licensing steps

How you can benefit from licensing by choosing the right brand

Utilizing Rights & Brands’ extensive expertise, we can assist you in identifying the ideal brand for your company profile and products. Whether you’re entering a new market, targeting specific audiences, or exploring new opportunities, R&B represents a broad range of art, literature, and design brands to meet your needs.

Our experienced Sales Team is happy to meet with you to discuss the best options that align with your business goals and values. We also work with a network of partners, events, and fairs, opening up opportunities to maximize the visibility of your licensed products.

At Rights & Brands, we prioritize the ethical, environmental, and quality standards of our licensees. Our products must meet strict guidelines for durability, functionality, safety, and visual quality, all of which are core to our mission. We encourage you to review our Licensee and Supplier Code of Conduct, which outlines our dedication to sustainable and ethical practices, ensuring that our partnerships and products reflect these core values.

Licensing agreements and deals

In addition to our focus on quality, Rights & Brands strives to build strong, successful collaborations. Our goal is for you and the licensor to agree on a shared vision, clear expectations for the brand, and how it will be used.

How much does licensing cost?

The licensing fee is based on royalties, meaning you’ll pay an agreed percentage of your sales to the brand owner (licensor) for the right to use the trademark. The exact percentage will vary depending on the type of product and area of use. Once everyone agrees, we will move forward with signing a licensing agreement, which typically lasts for two years. After this period, you may renegotiate the agreement if you wish to continue. To finalize the process, you will also need to sign our Licensee and Supplier Code of Conduct.

How do licensees design and create products?

When can the design process start? After signing the licensing agreement, you will gain access to a media bank containing the licensed artwork and graphics, allowing you to begin product design and development.
Licensees will also have access to brand guidelines, which will help you ensure that each product and asset complies with the brand owner’s requirements. Once the designs or mockups are ready, they can be easily uploaded to a system for a smooth approval process.

At Rights & Brands, our goal is to minimize the negative environmental impact of licensing. We encourage our licensees to adopt ethical trade practices and continuously improve their climate impact, regardless of where materials are sourced. By working together we can contribute positively to a more sustainable supply chain.

After Signing the Licensing Agreement: What Comes Next?

Once the agreement is signed and your products are approved, the next step is to provide Rights & Brands with a launch plan and marketing materials—then you’re ready to go!

This is an exciting milestone, and we’ll continue to support you throughout the process. After your product launch, we will follow up to review sales figures, analyze data, and explore additional ways we can assist you. There may also be strategic opportunities and events to enhance the collaboration and ensure ongoing success.

As the licensing period nears its end, we will reach out to discuss the possibility of renewing the contract. At Rights & Brands, we value long-term partnerships and are dedicated to working together for future growth.

Please keep in mind that you are required to report your sales figures quarterly, even before your product launch. If your royalties exceed the initial advance guarantee, we will issue an invoice for the remaining amount. This helps ensure financial transparency and keeps the collaboration running smoothly.
