The English translation of Siri Kolu’s The Robbersons and the Bandit Karaoke is among the winners of the English PEN translates Awards 2022. The Award is given annually to a translation of high literary quality, a strong publishing project and on basis of their contribution to UK bibliodiversity.
English PEN’s flagship grant programme PEN Translates awards a record 21 titles from 19 countries and 18 languages, including Siri Kolu’s novel The Robbersons and the Bandit Karaoke translated by Ruth Urbom from Finnish. The English edition is published by Little Tiger Press.
The Robbersons and the Bandit Karaoke (Me Rosvolat ja konnakaraoke) is the second part of the successful children’s novel series about the Robbersons. The series includes eight books with the newest book The Robbersons and the Friend Snatcher ( Me Rosvolat ja kaverikaappari) being released in 2020. In the series where we follow The Robbersons on their witty and pacey adventures. The series also include a fun cookbook Cooking with the Robbersons! (Ränttänttää, rosvoruokaa!) filled with The Robbersons favourite recipes!
In The Robbersons and the Bandit Karaoke the robbers’ summer festival is just around the corner, and their Bandit Karaoke championships will determine the next robber king or queen! Wild Carl Robberson is focusing on the upcoming competition. He’s growing confident of a victory when it emerges that the other robber families have pulled a fast one on the Robbersons.
Books are selected for PEN Translates awards on the basis of outstanding literary quality, the strength of the publishing project, and their contribution to UK bibliodiversity. English PEN is one of the world’s oldest human rights organisations, championing the freedom to write and the freedom to read around the world. PEN celebrate contemporary international writing through award literary grants for translating new works into English.
