Messi and Mystery Cat: Everything Will Be Fine!

The debut picture book from the talented author-illustrator Ninka Reittu is a good-natured, fast-paced adventure for the youngest members of the family!

Among most of the middle kittens of the Katsenbergs Family, Messi often gets lost in thought. When the family goes to visit Grandma, Messi accidentally ends up in the wrong train, and it looks like things are going to go badly awry. Luckily Messi meets Mystery, a cat who seems to know everything, can do everything, and assures Messi that everything is going to be just fine.

Mystery promises to take Messi to Grandma’s, but only after they have a few adventures, which begin right away: real hound-bandits board the train! Eavesdropping on them, Messi learns that the cat with the blue fur has been kidnapped and is being held on an island. The new friends decide to rescue the cat, calling on the help of a smug seagull and a friendly seal along the way.

Reviews

  • Süddeutsche Zeitung, Hör auf zu flennen - Die Abenteuer eines kleinen Katers, der im falschen Zug sitzt von Marlene Zöhrer

“Vivid blue, bright yellow, intense red, warm orange, lush green: the world of Finnish illustrator Ninka Reittu’s (b. 1982) picture books resonates with rich colours – colours reminiscent of the illustrated works of Richard Scarry or the covers of Tove Jansson’s Moomin books from the 1950s and ’60s. And not only do Reittu’s vivid ink drawings in flat fields of colour radiate retro charm with their rounded, abstracted shapes, they’re also incredibly cool and delightfully wild. Just like the story they accompany. With a clear, laid-back style, the story recounts the offbeat adventures of a little cat called Messi.”... it’s a marvellous, action-packed visual adventure, suitable for reading aloud or for beginners to read on their own. (Ages 4 and up)”
