Badger Meets Lion

A lovely collaboration of warm storytelling by Sanna Sofia Vuori, and traditional illustrations by Cara Knuutinen. These picture books by the duo are for both story-loving children and adult readers who are taken back to their childhood with the more classic-styled illustrations.

In this cosy wintery sequel to Badger Goes Missing, Badger and the child celebrate Christmas at her grandfather’s cabin. Under the Christmas tree there is an exciting package that rustles. In it, they find a wild lion lurking, a new stuffed animal for the child. Badger’s whole world changes as he comes to feel what resembles sibling rivalry between him and Lion.

Despite the feeling of jealousy, however, Badger also experiences the joy of having a new friend and sibling. Through little Badger, the reader can also ponder about friendship and sibling relationships.

Reviews

  • Helsingin Sanomat

"Cara Knuutinen's atmospheric illustrations are beautifully traditional, and the small story gives you room to interpret the scenes. Through Badger's own feelings you can ponder friendship, having a sibling, as well as receiving new toys."

  • Svenska YLE

"A warm and unadorned story that originates in the feeling that someone else comes and takes one's place - not entirely unlike the classic adjustment of having a sibling."
