Edith Hammar’s Portal Wins Prisma Literature Prize

12 Dec 2023

Edith Hammar is among the first historical Prisma Literature Prize winners. Hammer won the Prisma Literature Prize in the Series of the Year category for the graphic novel Portal.

Prisma is a newly established literary prize which recognises and awards contemporary LGBTI+ literature. It is awarded in seven categories to works that depict queer experiences and/or queer lives, i.e. experiences that combat cis and heteronormative notions of sexuality, gender and relationships.

Jury’motivation:

”In a story that depicts both contemporary and historical queer spaces, Edith Hammar explores what it would be like if these encounter in a frozen Helsinki.

Portal is a series that engages the reader through the character of Elia, the friendships depicted, and Elia’s newfound love for Eki. The imagery creates a dreamy landscape that we can get lost in and build on thanks to the story’s endless possibilities.”

Portal, Edith Hammar’s second graphic novel is a beautifully melancholic tale where fantasy and reality, the past and the present, skillfully intertwine to weave a story of longing for a bygone era.

Prisma is organised by PAGE 28 and Bögbibblan. With Prisma, Bögbibblan and PAGE 28 want to recognise and reward works that explore and renew queer literature and engage a queer audience with their subversive potential and craftsmanship.

Our warmest congratulations to Edith and all the other winners!
