“A collection filled of nostalgia, playfulness and an important piece of design history under your feet” this is how interior brand Layered describes their new collection Stig Lindberg x Layered. The exclusive collection consisting of rugs in some of Lindberg’s most iconic prints, was launched yesterday.
Stig Lindberg was a man of many skills – imaginative and surreal in his expression. He would place flowers where none are to be found and fish where there are no fish. He was also innovative in the way he worked with materials and colours. Stig Lindberg wanted to create a more beautiful Sweden available to everyone.
A democratic idea of allowing the less privileged access to beautiful objects through decorative and imaginative hard accessories. Many of his ideas were realized at Gustavsbergs Porslinsfabrik where he was the creative lead between 1947-1957 and 1972-1980.
Stig Lindberg was extremely productive during his active years and left a real treasure of patterns behind. The Stig Lindberg x Layered collection is the result of a common love for bold patterns and clean lines.
The popular patterns Berså and Trellis were each given a rug in two colourways. Stig’s collection combines 100% New Zealand wool in a hand knotted technique. The flat weave generates a structured baseline of the rug, accompanied by a tufted shaggy detail in the formation of hand-spun yarn. The distinction of the high/low pile creates a dynamic finish that complements Stig’s signature designs.
Stig’s wife Gunnel once designed and weaved a rug that was never taken into production. As a tribute to her, and as a complementary colourway to the more intense rugs, the Gunnel rug also made it into the collection.
Layered describes themselves as a brand inspired by art forms within fashion, photography and architecture. Their vision is to create timeless pieces for modern and elegant homes all over the world with a sustainable focus.
All Stig Lindberg carpets are now available on the Layered website.
