The Ilon Wikland exhibition at Formex

01 Sep 2022

During the Formex fair in Stockholm on August 23-26, Rights & Brands presented a 28 meters long exhibition about Ilon Wiklands artistry.

Formex, Sweden’s biggest interior and design fair, gathered over 12.000 visitors and more than 400 exhibitors this year. Using two sections at the entrance to the A-hall, Rights & Brands had a 28 meters long exhibition open during the whole fair, highlighting the artistry of illustrator Ilon Wikland. The exhibition was based on a concept by Lotta Ahlvar and created in collaboration by Rights & Brands, Design Ilon Wikland AB and Astrid Lindgren AB.

Ilon Wikland’s artistry is versatile, and her illustrations shows her very wide register. Ilon, today 92 years old, has been awarded numerous awards for his artistry, but the road to success was long and sometimes very dramatic.

The first part of the exhibition told the story of how Ilon came to Sweden as a 14-year-old refugee and later started her career as a successful illustrator, where she eventually met Astrid Lindgren.

The second part showcased several of the books and products that Ilon’s work has resulted in.

Ilon Wiklands artistry is today managed by Design Ilon Wikland AB, that is represented by Rights & Brads. Design Ilon Wikland AB is run by daughters Helene, Fredrika, Anna and Birgitta Wikland with the aim of preserving and developing Ilon’s fantastic art treasure.

The four Wikland daughters helped inaugurate the exhibition on the opening day together with Lotta Ahlvar, and Mark Levengood, who is both a collaborative partner and friend of Ilon.

The stand gathered a lot of attention and press, as many were intrigued of the story of one Sweden’s greatest children’s illustrators of all time. If you want to learn more, see the Formex folder here:
