09 Jul 2024

Barnes & Noble announces the expansion of stores carrying Moomin books and products in the United States. The retailer’s Moomin selection was piloted in 26 locations (and online) last year, bringing Tove Jansson’s stories to American audiences. Now, Moomin products will be available in 260 stores nationwide!

“I am thrilled to continue Jansson’s legacy by expanding our Moomin merchandise offer and making it available in many more of our stores across the country.” Says James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble.

Barnes & Noble is the first major retailer to carry Moomin products in the United States. The new expansion brings a Moominous shopping experience to even more fans across the country.

260 stores in 48 states will soon carry not only the core Moomin novel series but also Moomin comics and children’s books as well as Tove Jansson’s adult novels – alongside a wider selection of Moomin Arabia’s classic mugs that are cherished worldwide, Nordicbuddies’ Moomin socks, and much more.

Moomin Arabia has created tableware inspired by the Moomin stories since the 1950s. Their Moomin mugs have become a staple product for Moomin fans worldwide, with more than 150 different designs, each depicting moments from Tove Jansson’s esteemed stories. A variety of Moomin mugs are part of the assortment at Barnes & Noble, in addition to mugs, new glassware and textiles becoming available on Amazon later this summer.

James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble, said to moomin.com: “I’m delighted that our initial Moomin launch has proved successful with American audiences, though not the least bit surprised. Jansson’s timeless creativity, renowned characters and enchanting world warrant wider attention and distribution. I am thrilled to continue Jansson’s legacy by expanding our Moomin merchandise offer and making it available in many more of our stores across the country.”

Tove Jansson’s niece and President of the Board at Moomin Characters, Sophia Jansson, said, “Tove was an incredible artist and an exceptional person. She wasn’t afraid of walking her own path and was true to her ideals, and these things fed into her creations – they’re part of what makes the Moomin stories so special. We are incredibly proud for her life and literature to be expanding in the United States through the B&N partnership and these new releases.”
