Moomin nominated for Best Licensed Brand in 2021 Licensing Excellence Awards

29 Jun 2021

Rights & Brands has received a second nomination in the 2021 Licensing Excellence Awards. Other than the Carl & Karin Larsson nomination for Best Licensed Product Home Décor, the Moomin brand has been chosen as a finalist for Best Licensed Brand.

Every year the global licensing community celebrates the industry by choosing winners in Licensing Excellence Award gala. Licensing International is the center of the multi-billion-dollar worldwide brand licensing industry already for more than 35 years, and it has been growing its networks actively during the last years on all continents. This year it is clearly visible on the nominees’ list, also for the Nordics, as Rights & Brands, the Stockholm based licensing agency, got two nominations.

The Moomin brand is competing for the brand licensing industry’s most prestigious honor, being a finalist for “Best Licensed Brand – Entertainment, Character, Toy Brand, Animated”, with the nomination:

“With over 700 licensees and more than 750 million EUR in sales annually the Moomins celebrated 75 years in 2020. The sea is a vital part of the Moomin universe and Moomin launched the #OURSEA campaign to help save the Baltic Sea. The program proved to be a success with over 130 licensees on board and over 990 000 EUR donated. In 2020 Moomin had over 100 million impressions on Social Media. Moomin.com is ever expanding on content and online sales, delivering Moomin products worldwide. Today there’s 27 Moomin shops and 9 Moomin cafés around the world, from Helsinki to Hawaii.”

Patrick Ullman, CEO of Rights & Brands, comments on the nomination:

“At Rights & Brands, our foundation is bringing Nordic stories, brands and rights to a global arena. We are incredibly proud and feel very humble for this nomination from Licensing International. This is the result of the amazing work that we have done together with the family members, team and brand owners at Moomin Characters. Over the last 10-15 years, Moomin Characters have strategically invested in the Moomin brand and our eco-system, with support and management from Rights and Brands, our Partners and more than 750 licensees around the world.”

He also sees great potential in the global licensing network, the most recent being the partnership with Rovio Entertainment in game production.

“Now we see a huge increase in demand for new alliances and collaborations with Moomin worldwide. Rovio Entertainment’s (Angry Birds) new upcoming game, to name one. Looking forward, we are focusing on how to grow with our partners in China amongst other markets, scaling our digital footprint and continue our journey to bring happiness for everyone, based on the amazing work, literature and art from Tove Jansson and her fantastic Moomin stories.”

The winners will be announced at Licensing Expo Virtual on Tuesday, August 24th.
