The Hour Glass joins forces with Sarpaneva in celebration of the Moomins – A new limited edition watch released

22 Mar 2021

The limited edition includes only 20 pieces which are available for purchase only at The Hours Glass’ webstore.

The Hour Glass, one of the world’s leading specialty luxury watch retail groups joins forces with Sarpaneva in celebration of the Moomins. The design of the watch is based on the watch Sarpaneva crafted for the 75th anniversary of the Moomin stories.

This automatic wound wristwatch features three-layered skeletonized dials with 8hand-painted Swiss Super-Luminova® emission colours in varying order creatingunique combinations. With a thin and compact case at just under 39mm in diameter and 8.9mm high, you will be pleased to know that the watch holds a 100m water resistance and 42-hourpower reserve. The sleek dimensions are made possible partly due to the SoprodA10 movement within.

The design of the watch’s dial is inspired by Tove Jansson’s illustration in the book Moominsummer Madness (1954). In the original illustration, Moomintroll is seen dreaming among reeds on a summer day. “I had an idea, that the original, black and white illustration could be made in colour, with respect for the original version”, Stepan Sarpaneva says.

The hand-painted colours illuminate in the dark and create a new atmosphere: “When it’s dark, dreams change, they get colour and maybe get brought to life in a different way.”

Exclusively for The Hour Glass, the limited edition of 20 pieces features a pink goldbezel and pink gold crown atop the stainless steel case instead of being completely housed in stainless steel.

The watch is delivered in a treasure roll made by Finnish textile maker, Finlayson™.
