Rätt Start, a Swedish producer of children and baby products, just launched a major collaboration with some of the most beloved characters by Astrid Lindgren & Ilon Wikland: Madicken, the Brothers Lionheart, Lotta on Troublemaker Street and the Children of Noisy Village.
When Rätt Start started the design process of the four collections they made it a priority to capture the essence of each characters story and base the design on what is specific about them. All the artwork used on the products are the original illustrations that Ilon Wikland made for Astrid Lindgren’s books. The result is four beautiful collections with their own expression and storytelling that captures what is unique to each story. Scroll down to read more about each collection!
The Children of Noisy Village
The first collection is with the Children of Noisy Village (Barnen i Bullerbyn). There are three farmhouses in Noisy Village, ‘North Farm’, ‘Middle Farm’, and ‘South Farm’. Six children live there, Lisa, Lasse, Bosse, Britta, Anna and Olle. They have fun almost all the time. “I feel sorry for all children who don’t live in Noisy Village”, says Anna.
For this collection, Rätt Start created a food container with the three farmhouses, a set of cutlery and tableware, water bottle in stainless steel, bibs and a special baby book with the animals from the farms.
Lotta on Troublemaker Street
The second collection is Lotta on Troublemaker Street (Lotta på Bråkmakargatan). Lotta and her family live in a yellow house on Potmaker Street. But their dad says that even if pot-makers lived there in the past only troublemakers live there now. Lotta grows up in a small idyllic middle-class town during the 1950s.
Rätt Start chose the children who loves to ride bicycles on Troublemaker Street as their inspiration for this collection and Lotta’s iconic red colours. The water bottle and food container are perfect for adventures and this collection also includes Lotta’s best friend – the plush pig Bamsen who is made in 100% linen!
Madicken
The third collection features Madicken. Seven-year-old Madicken lives with her family; her Mum, Dad, little sister Lisabet and their housemaid Alva, in a big, beautiful house called ‘Junedale’ (Junibacken) in a Swedish provincial town during the First World War. Madicken wants to be a good and well-mannered girl, but it isn’t always easy. The world is just so full of exciting things to do, try and explore. Madicken is fearless and she often ends up in somewhat sticky situations that she has to use all her wits to get out of.
Rätt Start tells that the starting point for this collection was the sisterhood between Madicken and Lisabet and the porcelain ware with blue edges that could be found at Junedale. They are just perfect for eating meatballs! The tableware is made in melamine and has new, brushed surface.
The Brothers Lionheart
The Brothers Lionheart (Bröderna Lejonhjärta) is a tale of love strong enough to conquer death – not just once, but twice. After brothers Jonathan and Crusty pass away, they meet again in Nangijala, the land of eternal spring. Casting a long shadow over their world is the evil tyrant Tengil, ruler of the country Karmanjaka, where he’s building his new fortress up in the The Ancient Mountains.
Follow Jonathan and Crusty’s incredible adventures through a world of fairy tales. In this collection you will meet dragons, dangerous travels through valleys and over mountains, and wicked knights. The bibs come in two versions, one with Thorn Rose Valley (Törnrosdalen) and one with Cherry Valley of Nangijala (Körsbärsdalen)
